Raised in Salt Lake City where he learned photography on the high school yearbook, his career has taken him to 85 countries, covering the world for TIME, LIFE, NY Times Sunday Magazine, and National Geographic. He co-founded Contact Press Images, the photojournalism agency 40 years ago and has produced three photographic books: “Soul Rebel – An Intimate Portrait of Bob Marley,” “44 Days-Iran and the Remaking of the World” (on the Iranian Revolution of 1979), and “Managing Gravity,” a collection of sports work from over thirty years of covering the Olympics.  He has won the Robert Capa Gold Medal (Overseas Press Club), Photographer of the Year (POY), and the World Press Photo “Photo of the Year” award.  He lives in Newburgh, NY, but considers anywhere with a good story “home.”
