The Aurora Multimedia Workshop is back for 2013, and, in response to attendee feedback over the last few years, we've split the programming in to two back-to-back sessions this year. First, a 101 Seminar for a wider audience looking to gather the latest information in the world of dSLR filmmaking and network with fellow colleagues and our diverse faculty. Then, directly following, a smaller group 201 Hands-On Workshop program for those attendees who want more in-depth education, with hands-on experience in producing a short project in a small group environment.

101 SEminar
During the 101 Seminar, presenters will share how multimedia fits
into the future from the perspective of the hottest new media
ad agency in North America (Crispin Porter+ Bogusky) to how
traditional news media are transitioning (National Geographic
in multimedia) to the goals of a new division of a highly respected
picture agency (Novus Select) to tips from documentary filmmakers.
This is not just training for today, but a vision of the future.
201 Hands On Workshop
For those staying for the 201 Workshop, we'll continue the week with practical hands on training, teaming up in to small 3-4 person groups to develop a story idea, shoot in the field, edit a short piece and have that final edit projected before the group and discussed in at length among the faculty.
Background
Coming on the heels of a successful earlier programs, this workshop
prepares photographers for creating effective multimedia
projects and examines the challenging new world of visual storytelling.
Partnered with one of the
most progressive picture agencies today – Aurora
Photos and Novus Select– this
hands-on workshop provides instruction in combining still photographs,
sound, narration and video. Headquartered on the University
of Colorado campus in their brand new high-tech ATLAS building,
these four days go well beyond any other workshops concentrating
on new media.
A slideshow of images from behind the scenes of the workshop.
The how-to of producing multimedia is accompanied by
understanding the platforms where it appears. National
Geographic magazine will discuss how they are
moving the Great Yellow Border into this new age. MediaStorm will
showcase their innovative style and broad distribution platforms
that keep them at the forefront of multimedia storytelling.
Jose Azel and Corey Rich of Novus
Select will
show how one of the most innovative picture agencies in the
country has moved to creating new content for clients.
Crispin
Porter + Bogusky will
illustrate how the hottest agency in this country now puts 90 percent
of their creative power for major corporations into new media.
But for all that vision, there will be practical teaching
from advocacy work from Amy Marquis of The
Digital Naturalist,
transmedia storytelling from Kevin
Moloney, the New York Times contract
photographer for the Mountain West states (and the top-rated
photojournalism program director at the University of Colorado),
the amazing opportunities of the latest generation of digital
cameras that also produce full HD video by Mark Kettenhofen
Nikon.
Roberts Camera will
host a mini store onsite with loaner
equipment from all our partnering manufacturers (including
Manfrotto and The
MAC Group) as well as special pricing
on anything you might wish to purchase.
We're proud to partner with the University
of Colorado's School of Journalism
and Mass Communication. As the flagship University
of the State of Colorado, CU-Boulder is a dynamic community
of scholars and learners situated on one of the most spectacular
college campuses in the country.
The workshop will be centered at CU's new state of the art ATLAS
facility. The ever-expanding landscape of the networked
age requires new and adaptable skill sets within both academic
and commercial paradigms, and ATLAS was built specifically
to address these needs.High tech auditoriums combined with
computer labs featuring the latest Apple workstations make
the perfect host for the workshop.

Additional Information
With 10-15 instructors and staff onsite, each student
can be assured a low student-to-instructor ratio, excellent
networking and a diverse experience in the media world.
The combined knowledge of the faculty is outstanding and
attendees have a chance to get not one or two opinions
on the growing world of multimedia, but a dozen points
of view from a cross-section of the profession assembled
nowhere else.

Who Should Attend
This workshop/conference will cover not only the technical
and creative evolution of the profession in recent years,
but also examine storytelling in new media and address business
issues and content delivery systems for working professionals.
With that in mind, the program is structured for working
professional or advanced amateur still photographers looking
to enter the profession. While the Seminar will provide broad exposure to the state of the industry and key insights to elevating your multimedia storytelling capabilities, those interested in hands on training and field sessions to further thier new found skills will want to stay for the Workshop.
We’ll assume a solid working
knowledge of still photography and focus mostly on basic
techniques of video and audio gathering to compliment your
photography skills, adapting your digital workflow, project
management, scripting, the art of the interview and other
relevant topics. We've begun updating packets,
schedules and other information, posted in the right
hand column, for your downloading and review. Items posted
from last year are still valuable for review as many of the
details remain the same, thought this year we'll revise the seminar style presentations in to the first two days of 101 Seminar and move most of the hands-on elements to later in the 201 Workshop.
Please call 1-800-745-3211
with further questions, one of our associates will be happy to describe the
workshop at length. We will continue to post updated information concerning
the workshop.
